REGIONAL CARRIERS PETITION FOR VERIZON THUNDER SALES

The wireless phone industry is reaching the saturation point, so exclusive phone sales matter more than ever, especially ones like the iPhone for AT&T or the touchscreen Blackberry Thunder for Verizon, theese phones drive people to particular carriers. So it's no wonder the Rural Cellular Association (repping smaller regional carriers) is petitioning the FCC to ban exclusive deals, which seem to push people out of smaller local carriers to the larger established sell phone carriers, since it can take months or years for trickle down. The iPhone is at the center of the complaint.

One major complaint is that most people in Vermont can't get an iPhone, since AT&T only has roaming coverage there, and none of the carriers in the area can offer it. While it sounds like a nice, egalitarian thing the gov't could latch onto, the petition will probably fail.

As big as FCC Chairman Kevin Martin is on promoting competition, it's really only particular kinds of competition, and this doesn't really fall into the rubric. Moreover, this isn't the first time this kind of petition has been filed, and it's been smacked down every time before. Sorry, to say but there are still going to be many that are not going to be able to get an iPhone till iPhone 4 or 5, when that AT&T exclusive finally runs out.

THE NEW BLACKBERRY THUNDER SET TO CHALLENGE THE iPHONE

Motion Ltd., tha creators of the BlackBerry e mail mobile phone, will start selling a model called the Verizon Blackberry Thunder it will have a touch screen and goes on sale in the third quarter, Verizon Blackberry Thunder will be taking on Apple Inc.'s iPhone, the Wall Street Journal said.

Verizon Wireless will have exclusive rights to sell the handset in the U.S., the newspaper reported, citing people familiar with the matter. The device, known as the Verizon Blackberry Thunder , will run on wireless networks globally, the Journal said.

Since the iPhone's debut last June, Apple has seized the No. 2 spot in the U.S. market for cell phones with Internet functions, challenging BlackBerry's lead. Research In Motion is updating its designs to expand beyond corporate users and fend off a new faster iPhone that may emerge next month, said Pablo Perez- Fernandez, a Global Crown Capital analyst in San Francisco.Toys

LATEST NEWS ON THE VERIZON BLACKBEERY THUNDER

Verizon is calling there new CellPhone the Thunder, it is based on a true touchscreen and the Blackbeery Thunder is similar to the one used by the Apple's iPhone, and would have no keypad common to other BlackBerry devices. Instead the Blackbeery Thunder would have only four physical keys and it will not have a slide out keyboard.

A spokeswoman for Verizon Wireless, which is also said to be planning to launch the handset, and officials at BlackBerry maker Research in Motion, would not comment late on Friday.

RIM announced a more typical new BlackBerry device earlier this week, the BlackBerry Bold, which will run on faster 3G networks. Officials described it as being for power users as well as consumers willing to spend more than they would for a typical mobile phone.

BlackBerry Bold 9000 beats iPhone to 3G

A RIM marketing official also said last week in an interview with PC Advisor's sister title Computerworld US that RIM is not looking to compete directly with the iPhone to reach a consumer audience instead of the BlackBerry's more traditional business users. RIM said the Bold came in response to requests by customers.

NEW DETAILS ON THE BLACKBEERY THUNDER

Here are some details on the upcoming touchscreen BlackBerry Thunder, it'll be offered exclusively on Verizon in the US and Vodafone in Europe. It'll have only four physical keys and will run on 3G EV-DO Rev. C as well as GSM HSPA for international use. No word on when this thing is going to drop, or whether or not anyone who uses a Blackberry will allow a physical QWERTY keyboard to be pried from their grip, but we'll keep you updated

THE NEW VERIZON BLACKBEERY THUNDER

No lame ass keypad, just four buttons and a HUGE touchscreen? The patents don’t lie for a change, co-CEO Jim Balsillie say's in a recent interview that a touchscreen is in RIM’s potential future. It’s supposedly going to be a dual-mode device (EV-DO rev. C, and HSPA) and launching internationally, exclusively on Verizon and Vodafone. Now, this thing is still in its extremely early stages, so plenty can change, but rhe new Vlackbeey Thunder is still an exciting prospect, especially considering BG is probably at WES talking to someone who knows a thing or two about the project.

BUY A UNLOCKED iPHONE STRAIGHT FROM APPLE

An Italian version of the iPhone will be released "in weeks," according to one of the country's newspapers. Repubblica claims that a contract was signed last week in Apple's home city of Cupertino, California, after a visit from the CEO of Telecom Italia. The first version of the i phone in Italy should be the highly-anticipated 3G model, rather than the current 2.5G edition; more importantly however, Apple is said to be experimenting with a completely new pricing scheme in the country.

Instead of locking iPhones to a single carrier for several years, as in the US or the UK, Apple is going to allow the sale of iphones that are unlocked by default, only priced at a higher level; this would be similar to the arrangement with Orange in France, except that there should be no locked phones as a cheaper alternative. This is also said to be in keeping with the popularity of pre-paid plans in Italy, and a willingness to spend more for the freedom of switching carriers at will.

Italians should be able to use the iPhone on various networks including 3 and Vodafone; Telecom Italia will still benefit the most however, being the primary point of sale, and the only company with official support training.

FREE BLACKBEERY SMS MESSAGES

If you have a BlackBerry data plan, you can use the FREE service Teleflip to send and receive* SMS messages without incurring those nasty SMS charges!

When you want to send an SMS message, simply email 10DigitPhoneNumber@teleflip.com using the recipient's 10 digit cell phone number in place of 10DigitPhoneNumber.

Your message will go out via email (covered by your BlackBerry data plan), but received by the cell phone of the 10 digit phone number you used in the email address as an SMS message.

Better yet, when the recipient replies to the SMS message, you'll receive it via email (again, covered by your BlackBerry data plan).
TIP 1: If you have someone you SMS regularly, add their "Teleflip" SMS email address to their entry in your address book!
You do NOT need to register with the service to use it! The service is really designed for simple cell phones to be able to email out, but how nice that it works this way too!

One thing to remember - SMS messages cost per 160 characters. If you use an email address that automatically appends your signature, you can easily end up costing the recipient another message just because of the signature. Use an email address that doesn't automatically append a signature to your outgoing email.
TIP 2: Set up an Autotext called sig that translates into what you'd normally like to use as a signature and turn off Auto Signature. Then, when you want your signature, simply type sig and hit [Space] or [Enter] and your signature will appear!

One other thing. My company appends ALL emails with a legal disclaimer that by itself is four SMS messages! If you have a similar situation, and can set up a BIS account, be nice to the people you send messages to and set yourself
For information on the service, go to https://www.teleflip.com

*Of course if someone sends you an SMS message, you'll receive it as an SMS message and incur any associated charges. I don't know if this would actually work (feedback please), but if you receive an SMS message, send back a message using the sender's Teleflip email address and ask the recipient to add that address to their address book for you so they can send you a message without getting it as an SMS message.

BLACKBEERY THUNDER V.S THE iPHONE

What's the major difference between a BlackBerry and an iPhone going to be ?... A keyboard. Once Apple ships the iPhone 2.0 software, with proper Exchange support and push email, the only real difference between the the handsets is the BlackBerry's physical input. But it looks like RIM will be ditching it's one advantage in a rumored new handset, the BlackBerry Thunder. This Site Blackbeery thunder will be your Blackbeery hack site. We will have the Latest Jailbreaks foe your Blackbeery and hope you will visit us on a regular basis for the latest Blackbeery Thunder News.

The new handset will be the first true touchscreen phone, with just four physical buttons. Available sometime in Q3, it will be an exclusive to Verizon (in the US) and Vodafone (Europe). The eagle eyed amongst you will have spotted that this requires support for both GSM HSPA and CDMA radios, which means this thing will work pretty much anywhere in the world.

It shows that BlackBerry is feeling the heat from the iPhone and possibly releasing a copycat device.
